Lined curtains “on a tipper”
It is a quick and easy method. The lining is sewn to the curtain along the edges. This method of sewing the lining is used especially in the case of small curtains, made of lightweight materials. You will need the right materials for curtains and lining, shirring tapes together with hooks, sewing utensils. Cutting the lining and the curtain itself is described opposite.

1. SEWING THE LINING – We fold the lining and curtain fabric with the right sides to the inside, lining on top. The top edge of the lining should fall into place 4 cm below the edge of the fabric. We pin with pins, we baste and sew one of the sides with a regular flat stitch 1,5 cm from the edge. We are leaving 15 cm at the bottom of the lining not sewn, to allow the pit underneath. We fold the second edge of the lining with the remaining edge of the fabric, we pin with pins, we baste and sew as the previous ones. We iron both seams.
2. TRIMMING THE LINING – We fold a double fold in width 1,5 cm along the bottom edge of the lining. We pin, we baste and sew the hem.
3. REVERSAL – We turn the curtain and lining to the right side. We spread it flat with the lining up, yes, so that the lining is in the middle, and the edge seams are on the lined side. You should see approx. 4 cm of curtain material on both sides. We pin the seams, if it is necessary, and press. We put on the bottom of the curtain 1,5 cm, and then 7,5 cm and press.
4. SEAMING OF THE HEAD CORNERS – We sew the diagonal corners, we add weights, if there is such a need. We pin and baste the corner and the whole hem. We sew the shirring tape at the top and hang the curtain. We check the length of the lining and curtain, and if necessary, we improve.
5. FINISH – Having confidence, that the curtain and the lining are properly attached to each other, we can finish the curtain. Sew the covered stitch on the hem, corners and the rest of the lining. We remove the basting. Then we iron the curtain on both sides and hang it again.
OTHER POSSIBILITIES FOR USING THE LINING.
The lining is of the same fabric as the curtains – Instead of using a white or cream colored lining fabric, consider sewing the linings in the same fabric as the curtain. An ideal lining is e.g.. left side of the glitter.
CONTRASTING PATTERN – Interesting lining is made of fabrics decorated with a pattern in colors matching the curtain fabric or similar. You can also use stripes and grids in appropriate colors.
