VARIABLE CURTAIN
Variable curtains, perfect for seasonal use, consist in putting together several layers of material. You will need curtain and curtain materials for them, material for binding the edges and for attaching ribbons, pleating and shirring tapes, sewing utensils. We measure the size of the curtain and cut the fabric one and a half times wider than the finished curtain. Add to the desired length 3 cm to the top edge.
For the remaining edges, it is not necessary to add to the seams, because they will be trimmed. We connect the parts with garter stitch. We cut the curtain fabric in a similar way, adding 6 cm to the width and 13 cm to the length of the substrate.
1. SEWING TAPE TO A curtain – We fold, we basting and double stitching 1,3 cm on the sides and at the bottom of the curtains. We fold double wide – 5 cm hem at the top and ironed. We pin, we baste and sew the pleating tape to the curtain just below the upper fold, We wrinkle the curtain.
2. SEWING FLAT BINDINGS – We calculate, how many bindings do you need, counting what 10 cm and one at both ends. We mark places, We sew the bindings long enough, when folded in half, they can keep the curtain at the correct height. We fold each of the strips in half; in the place of folding, sew the strips with a covered stitch to the tape.
3. SEWING TRIM – We cut the pleat from the bias, width 4-6 cm and a length sufficient to bind the curtain fabric, adding 10 cm to join the ends. We assume 1 cm from each long edge of the pleat inside out and iron it. We sew the edges of the fabric. We connect the ends of the hem at the bottom, where they will be least visible.
4. SEWING TAPE – We measure out and mark the line 3 cm from the top of the curtain fabric, We pin, we baste and sew a simple shirring tape along this line. We wrinkle the top with cords in the tape. We mark the places of bindings, as with the curtains, remembering, so that they match the ties of the curtain. We fold the bindings in half and sew them with a covered stitch to the upper edge of the tape.
5. HANGING THE CURTAINS – We tie the curtains and curtains alternately to the rings. In the summer, when such an insulating layer is not needed, we can remove the curtain with the wheels, to which she is attached, leaving only the curtain to ensure the intimacy of the room.
