Sewing fringes – accessories

Haberdashery stores have a large selection of ready-made tapes, ribbons, fringes, decorative cords and laces for finishing and decorating seams and corners. Better to check before sewing, if they do not shrink and do not dye in the wash. If the extras require double; stitching on the machine ,it must be the same stitch so that the seams do not wrinkle.

SEWING A FRINGE

1 MATCHING – If the finished fringe is reinforced with a row of factory stitches, we leave them in place. We put the fringed tape face down to the right side of the fabric, so that the edge, which we want to sew, lay on the seam line. In this position, pin it with pins and baste it, joining successive sections of the tape to the butt joint.

2 SEWING – Place the second piece of fabric right side down on top of the first piece with the tassel tasseled. We carefully match the edges of both parts. We bind and baste all three layers along the seam line. We sew them, remove the basting and turn inside out.

3 SEAM FINISH – At this point, the factory reinforcement thread can be removed, cutting it at one end and gently pulling it out. The fringes can also be sewn on the right side straight to the edge of the fabric or over the hem stitch.
