Overlap seam – Topstitching

Overlap seam – This seam is most useful when sewing products, which must be strong and have a smooth exterior finish, and therefore mainly with upholstery. However, if you use these types of stitches, you will see a stitch on the right side.

1. FIRST SEAM – Sew the two pieces of fabric, right sides together, together 1,5 cm from the edge. After sewing, trim one stock to 5 mm.

2. WEARING – We put the wider stock on the narrower one. We wrap both on one side, so that the not hemmed edge is hidden underneath, and baste it.

3. SECOND SEAM – We sew 3 on the right side along the basting line and press the seam flat. One row of stitches will be visible.

STITCHING

It is a simple technique, which we use then, when we care, so that the seam line is visible. The effect is enhanced by the use of a thick thread in a contrasting color. We fasten the parts of the material together, baste and sew with a flat stitch, then remove the basting and iron the seam on both sides. On both sides of the seam on the right side, sew several lines of stitches in parallel.
