Characteristics of fabrics

The choice of fabric depends on it, what do we want to use it for and what character we want to give the interior. There are only four types of natural fibers to choose from – wool, silk, linen and cotton – but a much richer range of fabrics with various textures, colors and patterns than before. Modern industry has the ability to combine these fibers with each other, as with synthetic fibers. This allows you to obtain materials that are more convenient to use, stronger and less shrink than fabrics made of one type of natural raw material. When choosing a material, consider not only its color and pattern, but also the texture and the way it is arranged.

LINING MATERIALS

If we want to protect the curtains from fading from the sun, increase their insulating properties or facilitate laying, we provide them with a lining. Cotton satin or cretonne is perfect for this. If we use a special blackout material, we can shut off the light completely.

TRANSPARENT MATERIALS

They are light and thin fabrics usually used for curtains and decorative finishes. These include all kinds of nets, lace, tulle, English voile and embroidery They fit more easily than thick and heavy fabrics, and they are also cheaper than them. Curtain fabrics are available in a variety of colors, smooth, with a pattern printed or set into a mixed-weave fabric. They can be difficult to work with.

THIN MATERIALS

They are cotton fabrics, silk and synthetic fibers. They are usually transparent and can be wrinkled densely. If we want to make silk curtains or blinds, it is worth sewing them on the lining, for silk may fade in the sun over time.

THIN TO MEDIUM MATERIALS

Such materials usually have a smooth surface, easy to print, even with very complex patterns. They are decorative, and at the same time practical to use, therefore they are widely used. Curtains are made of them, bed linen, tablecloths, napkins and covers for decorative pillows. Mostly they are easy to sew and keep clean.

MEDIUM THICKNESS MATERIALS

Most of the popular upholstery materials belong to them. They are easy to sew, practical, therefore, they are widely used in interior design. They are usually made of cotton, linen and mixed natural and synthetic fibers with the addition of wool and silk. Most medium-thick fabrics are suitable for sewing simple upholstery or furniture covers.

THICK MATERIALS

These are materials of high thickness, giving the impression of warmth and coziness, suitable for upholstery. For curtains or bedspreads, they are less suitable, because they fit badly and are difficult to form.
