Metal frames with wood

Cladding metal frames with wood in relation to the wall panels

If there is a door with a metal frame on the wall lined with panels, the problem of lining the frame should be solved. If the jambs are on the side of the room to be delivered (outward opening door), then its finish should match the panels of the room. Recess in a tree-lined doorway, along with veneered doors, provides an aesthetic finish to the wall. If, on the other hand, the reveal is on the other side of the wall (inward opening door) then the lined door frame will not be as effective as in the first case. However, the principle of lining the door frame with the same material as the walls always applies.

Drawing. The connection of veneered wall panels with the reveal on the metal frame (cross-section): 1 - veneered chipboard (wall covering and reveals), 2 - adhesive joint (dispersion glue), 3 - adhesive joint (Butapren L-40).

The figure shows the construction of the door frame lining with veneered elements. This solution does not have any protrusions from the side of the room, and thickening of the carpet. Only a small toilet (4 mm) highlights joining planes at right angles. This solution avoids covering strips.

Drawing. Connecting wall panels of boards with a reveal on a metal frame (cross-section): 1 - jamb, 2 - plank lining, 3 - a joint glued with Butapren L-40.

The figure shows the construction of the connection of the wall lining made of boards with the jamb. The lining of the reveal protrudes above the plane of the lined wall. In this way, the front surfaces of the over-door boards of the vertical lining were covered. If the boards of the wall covering are laid horizontally, then, in the vertical boards of the jamb, grooves by approx 0,5 mm wider than the thickness of the lining boards. This will hide their foreheads.

The jamb can be attached to the metal frame only if it is cleaned of paint. The door frames can be glued with butaprene. During the hardening of the glued joint (about 24 hours) the jambs are pressed in the same way as with wooden frames.

Drawing. Finishing of wooden panels next to metal door hinges (cross-section): 1 - slat with a groove, 2 - carpet, 3 - strip with a notch (alternative solution).

The drawing shows how the metal door frames are finished on the hinge side. You should remember this, that the gap between the profiled finishing strip and the door edge is the same on both sides and above the door, and it was large enough, allowing the door to open freely.
