The concept of the home has changed constantly throughout history. First, the most basic structures had only one space, in which all functions were unified. There was a stove in the center of the room, and the rest of the elements spread around him. It meant, that the entire space could be heated, when the stove was used for cooking.
As time goes by, man began to distinguish between day and night zones. The bedrooms are separated from the rest of the house, which slowly began to integrate different spaces for each application. Today, in a very distinct and evolving way, seems, that we go back to some features of ancient houses, because we re-connect the rooms together and reduce the areas – not for purely aesthetic reasons, but mainly due to lack of space.
Various factors contributed to the spread of small houses. One of them is the high price of land. More and more people are choosing to live in cities, in which there are usually small apartments, thus, the increase in demand does not equal the increase in supply, which leads to an increase in land prices. Another reason is to change family types. Throughout history, different generations of the same family have considered it normal to share the family home throughout their lives. Family models have changed today. Nuclear families are usually reduced to just two generations. i.e.. parents and children, and often houses are occupied only by pairs, and even single people.
Reducing the area of the house has created the need to develop ways to integrate all the necessary functions of the space in a practical and cozy way. Design aspects can be taken into account, when the house is still in the planning phase, before building and distributing rooms. This makes it possible to equip it, to take full advantage of each of its functions and apply optimal spatial solutions, that suit the needs of the person, who will live in it. One common practice is to use double the height of certain properties. High ceilings allow you to install an upper tier or platform, on which you can put a bedroom, office or other rooms, leaving much more free floor space on the floor below, which can then be used for the rest of the functions. The partitions in this type of apartment are extremely delicate, because there are more divisions, the more the sense of space will diminish. This is when you have to decide, which rooms you should separate, and which are best united in one space. There are other solutions, such as container modules, i.e.. Small structures, which they close – kitchen or bathroom and which are usually placed in the center of the house.
Furniture is essential, when it comes to small apartments. Many manufacturers have now added many collections to their furniture, which solve problems with space or combine various functions. However, the most common practice, and even the most eloquent in some cases, there is a selection of custom-made furniture. Means, that it can be adapted to the unique features of each space and the specific requirements of each user. Folding elements can be partially hidden in one structure, e.g.. Dining table with cupboards and lots of storage space.
Interior decoration, which also includes the wall color, as well as the floor and ceiling, is another basic element, which should be carefully considered in small spaces. Of course, light shades are best suited for varnishing, furniture and textile items. The fewer bright colors and patterns used, the bigger the room will look. The choice of color range is closely related to lighting, especially during the day. It is important to, to take into account the number of light inputs and the size of the holes in each room for decoration. If there is not a lot of natural light, it will be necessary to choose light colors for walls and furniture, to make the most of their special reflectivity. Decorative elements are equally important, because they can be used, to create a personal touch, that suits your particular aesthetic taste. Just remember, that instead of many small elements, you should choose fewer accessories with a more impressive and unique character, to mark your style without flooding the space.
